Brunello di Montalcino is undoubtedly one of the most representative Italian wines in the world. It’s a red DOCG wine, produced exclusively in the Tuscan village of Montalcino, not far from the city of Siena, with a particular variety of Sangiovese grape, the ‘Sangiovese Grosso’. It can boast great elegance, structure and balance: characteristics further enhanced by long ageing that can last for decades. Brunello is not afraid of time! Barolo can be considered one of the Italian red wines with greater longevity. Over time, this speciality, thanks to its indisputable value and incredible charm, has become a symbol of excellence, considered by many admirers an actual work of art.

  • History

This Brunello, in particular, is an Italian excellence. Even if the 2012 vintage was exceptional, characterized by solid instability (with an extremely cold and snowy winter, a very hot and dry summer in the first part and rainy at the end of the season), this wine has been awarded by the Consortium of Brunello di Montalcino with a score of 5 stars (which qualifies a wine as excellent on a scale of 1 to 5). Thanks also to the soil and the position of the vineyards, the quality of 2012 Brunello is of the highest level, with: 1) Remarkable structure 2) High level of polyphenols 3) High colour intensity 4) Good level of acidity of the grapes 5) And other ideal features for the long ageing period required for this wine. Indeed, the birth of Brunello di Montalcino is linked to the Biondi Santi dynasty, a family from Montalcino, where in 1820, a gentleman named Clemente Santi, pharmacist, chemist and farmer, began experimenting with Sangiovese Grosso vines. He implemented a wise selection matched with new winemaking methods that led his wines to be award-winning in cities such as Florence, London and Paris. From here begins the fame of Brunello di Montalcino. The first bottle, called Brunello di Montalcino, was presented in 1865. That date marks the birth of this wine that has conquered the world. From this moment on, the notoriety of Brunello di Montalcino has constantly been growing up to the present day. There are very precious bottles of this beautiful Bacchus nectar on the market. • Born from the Biondi Santi dynasty, in the course of history, many names have become protagonists of the success of Brunello di Montalcino; its production during the Eighties has been significant, here wine assumed the DOCG denomination. Today, over 250 wineries produce Brunello di Montalcino for over 6.5 million bottles a year, and Montalcino has become a universally recognized wine area. • The production area of Brunello di Montalcino is the same as the entire municipality (approximately 24,000 hectares), delimited by Ombrone, Asso and Orcia rivers. The geological characteristics of the territory affect the wines depending on their production area.
